We’re now well and truly into the cross country season and Saturday marked the second match of the Manchester Area League at Kenworthy Woods where we were the host club. Lots of brilliant performances particularly from our Vets - for the men Matt Shaw won the prize for 1st Vet in the race and together with Andy, Gary and Christopher led our A team to a stunning victory in the Vets league against tough competition! Great running also from our senior men to finish fourth.
Our women's Vets team of Ingrid, Stephanie and Sarah also ran brilliantly to be 2nd Vets team and made up three quarters of our senior women team (led by Siobhan who was 14th in a strong field) who were also 2nd! Stephanie was also 1st F50 and Ingrid 3rd F35. Great strength in depth too with us having 7 complete women’s teams and 8 men’s teams, more than any other club! Fantastic work also by Neal and Becki who organised the whole day superbly and coordinated our team of amazing volunteers, without whom the event could not have taken place. Congratulations all!
Out on the hills Alice and Matt O took on The Roaches, a tough 15 mile fell race in the Staffordshire Peak District with 3,700 feet of ascent hosted by Mow Cop Runners. Alice had a brilliant run to finish 3rd female and improve her time from last year by 6 minutes. Meanwhile Ian, Sam, Francis and Hannah headed to Derbyshire for the Leg it Round Lathkil Race, 7.1 miles with 950 feet of climbing with beautiful autumn colours in the Lathkil valley near Bakewell.
On the roads Sheheera and Amy S ran the Heaton Park Half Marathon on a very hilly course.
And for those not racing on a cold but beautiful Sunday morning we had our usual great selection of group runs led by our lovely volunteer run leaders.
