Wednesday Hills and Fells

The Black Sheep group organise a midweek run in the hills around Manchester.

This is normally on a Wednesday evening. The run location changes each week, especially when we are meeting at fell races, so we can’t give exact times and meeting points more than a few weeks in advance.

So watch out in the Black Sheep Facebook group for the next event and feel free to suggest a new route! Lifts are often available from Chorlton.

We try to split into two or three groups of different speeds and strengths so everyone is challenged without feeling like they are slowing others down. We also have a Lambs group especially for runners new to the hills.

All runners, members and non members, are welcome to join the Black Sheep.

Midweek Races

In the summer we try to find a Fell Race near Manchester such as the Rainow 5.  This is a 5 mile race with around 200 runners climbing to White Nancy before running the ridge. It is a very friendly event which raises money for local charities.  When we are finished and have collected our prize money we head to a local pub for some food and a well deserved drink.

If there are no races we’ll run one of our favourite routes or find a new hill or two to explore.

Winter Headtorch Runs

These are every other week, usually on a Wednesday, and are an excellent opportunity to get out to the hills, socialise and explore local routes. Some routes finish near a pub for some grub and an open fire to warm up!

For safety you need to sign up for each run on the Run Together app in advance and select a specific group that reflects your speed and abilities. Appropriate kit is essential.

Safety

Part of fell running is being able to take care of yourself in the hills. Get to know the Fell Runners Association kit requirements (see the file in facebook group) and ensure you follow any instructions in events. There are lots of options for increasing your skills with navigation and technique.

Your safety is your responsibility. See our Disclaimer or ask one of the Black Sheep Shepherds for more information.
