The Black Sheep

Running in the Hills

Who are the Black Sheep?

We are a group of Chorlton Runners who enjoy running and racing off road. We welcome all runners, members and non members, from novices to seasoned fell runners.

We encourage people to explore the countryside, challenge themselves, have fun in the hills or any combination of the three.

Join us for a run or two to see if the hills are where you want to be, then take a look at Chorlton Runner membership options and join the Black Sheep Facebook Group.

Black Sheep meet on Wednesday evenings throughout the year for headtorch runs in the winter and races over the spring and summer. We also run together most weekends either racing or finding our own routes to explore the hills together.

The Shepherds

The Shepherds are Chorlton Runners who have volunteered to have a role in organising and supporting members to engage in events and social runs with the Black Sheep. We work in partnership with the CR committee and encourage Black Sheep to get involved in the club. Fellow Sheep are also welcome to help in various ways.

Our current Shepherds are Brian Barnes, Catherine Elliott, Nick Syrett, Drew Savage, Peter Adams, Andrew Basford, Fraser Macdonald Oulds, Hannah Greenlee, and Hannah Coates.

Black Sheep Wings

Everyone has the chance to earn their Black Sheep Wings, an embroidered badge which show you achieved the following:

S is for Sharing. Volunteering/marshalling/fundraising that supports the wider fell running community.
H is for Helping. Lead a Black Sheep run or help organise a black sheep event.
E is for Events. Participate in 10 fell or trail races.
E is for Ewe-sing a map and possibly a compass on a navigation course or event.
P is for Personal Challenge. Set yourself a goal and achieve it!

Black Sheep Race Series

Each year we pick a number of races to enjoy as a group. You are welcome to enter as many or as few as you like. Points will be awarded to everyone who runs - the better you do, the more points you get!

The series can be a great way to try new races, compete with fellow sheep or just have a laugh doing something you might not normally do. We try to pick a range of days, distances, terrain and locations.

Watch out for details in the Facebook group!
